• Investigation means asking focused questions and designing simple experiments to answer them.
• How scientists work — They observe carefully, experiment thoughtfully, and explain clearly what they see.

Investigating the Puffed-up Puri

• To find out why a puri puffs up unevenly, scientists first sort out what they can control from what they observe.
• What we control — Dough thickness, size, flour type, oil temperature, how the dough is dropped in.
• What we observe — Does it puff up — yes or no? How long does it take, in seconds?

Change Only One Thing at a Time

• Why it matters — Keeping every other condition the same lets you fairly compare results — and know which change actually caused the difference.
• Keep good notes — Splattering, smell, smoke — every detail can matter. One round of experiments often leads to new questions.

Light, Mirrors, and Lenses

• Bouncing and bending — Light reflects off flat and curved mirrors, and bends (refracts) through lenses — explaining images in a spoon, and how glasses correct vision.
• Even the Moon reflects — Rough surfaces reflect light too — including the Moon, whose phases come from the changing positions of Earth, Moon, and Sun.

• Everything is connected — From tiny insects to whales, every living being depends on and responds to air, water, sunlight, and other organisms.
• A planet built for life — Earth sits at just the right distance from the Sun for liquid water, with an atmosphere that gives us oxygen and blocks harmful rays.
